Trust & Governance

Information is only useful when you can understand it

Where it came from, what it means, and how much confidence to place in it. HyLoQ is designed to make its sources, context, and limitations as clear as possible — so you don't have to simply trust us.

HyLoQ organizes and explains information. It does not replace the original source.

Two intelligences

One trust foundation

HyLoQ's two intelligences serve different purposes, but they share the same commitment to responsible information. Each has its own sources and methods.

Resource Intelligence

See what's happening with prices, products, businesses, and resources.

Civic IntelligenceIn development

See what's happening with public services and your community.

Source → Context → Interpretation → Transparency

Source transparency

Where does the information come from?

HyLoQ uses information from identified sources, including official government agencies, public institutions, research organizations, credible publications, and appropriately attributed community information.

Whenever possible, you should be able to see:

  • Who published the information
  • What was published
  • When it was published
  • The relevant reference period
  • Where it applies
  • The original source

Know what you're reading

Source, interpretation and community — kept apart

Source information

Information published by the original organization or institution.

HyLoQ interpretation

A plain-language explanation or connection created from available source information.

Community information

Information contributed by people or communities based on their observations or experiences.

An official advisory remains an official advisory. A citizen observation remains a community observation unless it is appropriately reviewed or corroborated. HyLoQ's explanation never becomes the original source.

What people notice

Community information

People often notice changes before they appear in formal datasets. Where HyLoQ accepts community observations, these are kept distinct from official information and identified according to their status — for example Reported, Under Review, Corroborated, Verified or Unverified.

A community report is not automatically true, and submissions are not automatically verified.

Provenance

Know where information came from

For relevant information, HyLoQ aims to keep the source, publication date, reference period, original link, when it was retrieved or updated, where it applies, the type of source and the method behind it. You'll see the essentials alongside the information; the details live on the methodology page.

Uncertainty and limitations

What HyLoQ does not know

We try to say how certain something is, using words like:

KnownReportedObservedEstimatedProjectedExpectedPossibleUncertainUnavailable

Projections are not facts, estimates are not measurements, and possibilities are not certainties. When information is incomplete, outdated, unavailable or conflicting, we say so.

AI assists, sources decide

Responsible use of AI

Some HyLoQ features may use AI to help organize, summarize, explain, or connect information. AI-generated explanations are not a replacement for the original source and are not always accurate. HyLoQ is designed to ground explanations in available source information, preserve important uncertainty, and keep the original source accessible.

How HyLoQ Uses AI
Privacy

Your information

  • Collect as little personal information as needed.
  • Collect information for defined purposes.
  • Give you appropriate control over your information.
  • Avoid unnecessarily exposing the identity of people who contribute community information.
  • Give sensitive information appropriate protection.

Security

HyLoQ is designed with security controls intended to protect its data, services, and users from unauthorized access and misuse.

User agency

Your decisions are yours

HyLoQ is designed to help people understand information, not make decisions for them. We provide context, connections, and explanations so you can make more informed decisions for yourself.

Civic Intelligence

Civic information and public life

Civic Intelligence is intended to make public information and community conditions easier to understand. HyLoQ does not replace public institutions, official records, or democratic processes. Where information concerns public services, policies, programs, or government activities, you should be able to identify the original source and context.

Resource Intelligence

Resource information

Resource Intelligence brings together information about prices, products, businesses, resources, supply, demand, and related conditions. Whether it comes from official price monitoring, government data, businesses, community observations or other sources, HyLoQ aims to make the source and context clear. HyLoQ does not decide what the "true" market price is.

What guides us

Our governance principles

  1. 1. Source transparency

    Show where information comes from.

  2. 2. Context matters

Preserve dates, geography, definitions, and reference periods.

  3. 3. Separate fact from interpretation

Do not present HyLoQ's explanation as the original source.

  4. 4. Respect uncertainty

Do not turn estimates or possibilities into facts.

  5. 5. Protect people

Handle personal and community information responsibly.

  6. 6. Responsible AI

Use AI as an assistance and interpretation layer, not as an unquestionable authority.

  7. 7. User agency

Help people understand so they can make their own informed decisions.
